I am the first person in history to teach cowry art as an indigenous vocational art practice in Nigerian schools. I successfully led training programmes in communities where cowries have long been misunderstood and associated primarily with traditional religious worship. By reframing cowries as a cultural, artistic, and economic resource, I helped students appreciate them as a medium for creativity rather than superstition. With the visionary support of Iseyin District Grammar School, a predominantly Muslim school, and Ajayi Crowther High School, Iseyin, a Christian missionary school, students from different faith backgrounds embraced this unique opportunity—demonstrating that art and cultural heritage can transcend religious boundaries and foster creativity, dialogue, and mutual respect.
